Guide Post Sets
Guide post sets are the alignment system of a press die — post, bush and (optionally) ball cage supplied as a matched assembly.
What are guide post sets?
A guide post set aligns the upper and lower shoes of a die set through every press stroke. Plain sets run a ground post directly in a bronze or steel bush; ball-cage sets interpose a cage of recirculating balls for near-zero clearance and low friction. Sets are ordered by post diameter, length and mounting style, as matched assemblies.
Typical materials
Posts in hardened SUJ2 bearing steel, ground and lapped; bushes in bronze or hardened steel; cages with hardened balls.

- Plain sets are rigid and economical for general stamping. Ball-cage sets run with virtually no clearance at low friction, suiting high-speed presses and precision dies where alignment repeatability drives edge life.
- Can I replace only the bush or cage of a set?
- Components are replaceable, but running clearance is set by the matched pair — replacing post and bush (or cage) together restores the original alignment accuracy.
