Linear Guide Rails

Profile rail guides carry heavy, offset loads with high rigidity — the standard motion element of machine tools and automation axes.

What are linear guide rails?

A linear guide (profile rail) system pairs a precision-ground rail with one or more recirculating-ball carriages (blocks). The gothic-arch raceways take load in all four directions, giving far higher moment rigidity than round-shaft systems — which is why machine axes, gantries and precision stages are built on them.

Frequently asked questions

Profile rail or round shaft — which linear guide should I use?
Profile rails give higher rigidity and moment capacity and mount on a machined surface; round-shaft systems tolerate less-precise mounting and cost less. For loaded, accurate axes profile rail is standard; for simple guided motion round shaft is often enough.
What does preload mean on a linear guide?
A slight interference between balls and raceways that removes internal clearance. Preload increases rigidity and repeatability at the cost of slightly higher friction — chosen by class to match the duty.
