Timing Belts & Pulleys

Timing belts transmit torque tooth-by-tooth — no slip, no lubrication — making them the default for positioning drives and clean power transmission.

What are timing belts & pulleys?

A timing (synchronous) belt has moulded teeth that mesh with grooved pulleys, keeping driver and driven shafts in exact phase. Profiles (T, AT, HTD 3M/5M/8M, GT classes) trade tooth strength, backlash and quietness. Because there is no slip, they suit axis drives, conveyors and any drive where position matters.

Types of timing belts & pulleys

T / AT profile belts

Trapezoidal metric profiles; AT adds a stronger tooth for stiffer drives.

HTD (3M/5M/8M) belts

Curvilinear teeth carry higher torque smoothly.

Open-length belting

Cut lengths for linear axes with clamped ends.

Timing pulleys

Aluminium or steel, pilot-bore or taper-bush, with or without flanges.

How to select timing belts & pulleys

  • Profile and pitch from torque and speed.
  • Belt width from the power rating tables.
  • Tooth counts for the required ratio and centre distance.
  • Pulley material, bore and flange requirement; tensioning method.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between HTD and T-profile timing belts?
HTD's rounded (curvilinear) tooth engages more deeply and carries more torque for the same width; classical T profiles have more backlash but are widespread and economical. Positioning drives often use AT or GT-class profiles for stiffness.
Can I get a matching belt and pulley set quoted together?
Yes — send speed, torque or the existing part numbers and we quote belt and pulleys as a matched set, including bore machining where needed.
